Georgia College & State University was originally founded in the late 1800s as Georgia Normal & Industrial College to provide women with the opportunity to obtain higher education. Throughout the years the school evolved, began admitting male students, and in 1996 it was designated Georgia’s public liberal arts university. Today it is recognized as one of the best public liberal arts universities in the region—offering small class sizes and personalized attention. The main campus encompasses 43 acres in historic Milledgeville, which is the pre-civil war capital of Georgia located just southeast of Atlanta. The West Campus houses student apartments and sports fields and the East Campus, on Lake Laurel, hosts a unique outdoor education program. The school is just hours from the seacoast and mountains. International students are eligible to enroll in over 40 undergraduate programs in fields as diverse as rhetoric, chemistry, business, creative writing, and music therapy. We also offer graduate level programs in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, and Health Sciences. Upon arrival, international students will find supportive International Education Center staff and a host of activities such as International Club events, International Week, intramural sports, and excursions. Financial assistance is available for international students. Undergraduate students may apply for the International Student Scholarship, and after matriculation may also apply for alumni and foundation scholarships, including the Global Scholars Fund and the Hoy Taylor Scholarship. Graduate students may apply for an International Graduate Assistantships or regular assistantships offered by each school.
