St. John’s College is a co-educational, four-year liberal arts college known for its distinctive "Great Books" program. Across a wide-ranging curriculum, students read and engage directly with foundational works of Western philosophy, literature, history, political science, theology, economics, music, mathematics, and the laboratory sciences, from ancient Greece through the modern age. Classes are small (14-20 students), and discussion based, and are supplemented by written essays and oral examinations. All students follow the same four-year program, and all graduates earn a Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts degree. The college has no religious or political affiliations.

St. John’s is one college with two campuses, one in Annapolis, Maryland and another in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Due to the shared curriculum, students can transfer between Annapolis and Santa Fe without sacrificing any time toward graduation or quality of instruction. More than a third of students spend at least one year on both campuses.
