The State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh is listed as a top school in "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report, as well as in "Kiplinger’s Personal Finance" magazine as one of the “100 best values” among public universities in the United States. Founded in 1889, SUNY Plattsburgh is nationally accredited. The campus is located in Plattsburgh, a small, friendly, and safe city of 25,000 in northern New York State, 100 km south of Montreal, Canada and 500 kilometers north of New York City. Plattsburgh enrolls approximately 400 international students from more than 50 countries making it the most globally diverse college within the State University of New York. Plattsburgh offers bachelor's degrees in over 60 academic majors. All of the eleven majors offered in the School of Business and Economics are accredited by the AACSB International. The most popular majors for international students include business, biology, chemistry, economics, finance, and hotel-restaurant-tourism management. An increasing number of international students are selecting liberal arts majors (for example, art and communications), as well as majors in health-related fields (for example, nursing, medical technology, and nutrition). What makes the educational experience at SUNY Plattsburgh extraordinary is the abundance of opportunities for experiential learning including faculty-student research, internships, and community service. Admission to Plattsburgh is competitive. The most important factors in the admission decision are the quality of academic courses completed, the grades received in these courses, results on nationally standardized examinations, and level of English language proficiency.
