Founded in 1876, the University of Northern Iowa is a medium-sized public institution enrolling 13,000 students from 48 U.S. states and 70 countries. UNI is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa on the banks of the Cedar River. Cedar Falls is a college town with a metropolitan population of more than 115,000 and a history of providing a safe and friendly environment for students. The 340-hectare campus features more than 65 major buildings within a 10-minute walking distance of each other, including eight computer labs, nine residence halls and academic buildings with the latest technology and equipment. UNI offers 120 undergraduate and 70 graduate majors as well as a full-time intensive English program. Over 85% of classes have fewer than 40 students and over 99% of classes at UNI are taught by professors, not graduate assistants. The College of Business is accredited by AACSB-International, the global accrediting organization for business schools. Fewer than 15% of business programs in the world receive AACSB accreditation. UNI is ranked 2nd among Midwest regional public universities for the thirteenth year in a row by U.S. News and World Report in 2010. The UNI International Services Office assists students in their transition to campus from their home countries including a week-long orientation, immigration advising, personal advising and counseling and special programs and activities planned throughout the year. UNI offers the faculty, facilities and academic choices of a large university, while retaining a friendly small college atmosphere.
